West Pokot

Background

West Pokot County is situated in the north rift along Kenyas Western boundary with Uganda border. It borders Turkana County to the North and North East, Trans Nzoia County to the South, Elgeyo Marakwet County and Baringo County to the South East and east respectively. The County lies within Longitudes 340 47 and 350 49 East and Latitude 10 and 20 North. The County covers an area of approximately 9,169.4 km2 .. It is a cross border county and belongs to Karamonjong cluster. The county experience great variations in temperature.

West Pokot County is one of the 14 counties implementing the Kenya World Bank funded Regional Pastoral Livelihoods Resilience Project. The county was targeted because of it is a cross border county with Uganda and it is grouped into Karamonjong cluster as per the project document.It is also Vulnerabe to recurrent droughts, has Trans-boundary livestock trade routes/ Trans-boundary Resource based Conflicts prone areas and clustering around common issues such as pasture reserve areas.
